How To Install Wow Addons Windows 10 Discover the file you downloaded in step 1 and double-click the icon in Explorer to open the file in your favorite archive extraction software. If you don't have one, you can get a free one called 7-Zip from the 7-Zip download web page which is able to handle most of your file extraction wants and more.

I'll start off by saying I'm a little lazy so this isn't like all those amazing guides out there. Do at your own risk. Others feel free to add to this to make it more comprehensive. Do the below on your 'main' computer running wow. Oh, and this is instructions for Win 7. If you are on Mac you can do the same thing, but I dislike Macs so I won't post the instructions:P.

    How To Install Wow Addons

If you are on any other version of windows. Get Win 7, it's far superior to the rest:P 1. Download Dropbox 2. Install Dropbox and setup your free 2GB account and directory(this will create a directory on your computer that automatically syncs to the cloud) 3. Copy 2 folders to your dropbox location from your WoW install folder. WTFAccount - InterfaceAddOns 4. Rename those 2 folders that are in the (not the ones you copied to your dropbox account) - rename to backup - AddOns rename to AddOnsbackup 5.

    Not

Create symbolic links to the dropbox folders:D - open a command prompt in Administrator mode(ie right click it in the start menu and run as administrator - type in the following (double quotes required) mklink /D 'WTFAccount' ' and mklink /D 'InterfaceAddOns' 'AddOns' So you can understand what the things are, I'll use examples. Default install path on a win 7 machine with the Windows Username of Fart, and a WoW account name as Butthole. Great post Arres!!

I wanted to add one thing for all the Mac users out there, since I play on both platforms. After playing around, I figured out that this idea works with Google Drive as well. Setup Google Drive for all the computers you play WoW on.

Copy /WoW/Interface/Addons and /WoW/WTF/Account (as stated above) to your Google Drive Create symbolic links using command prompt or terminal in the Interface and Addons folders. The terminal commands for creating a symbolic link in OS X to your Google Drive: ln -s /Users/yourusername/Google Drive/originalfolder/ NAME (where originalfolder is either Addons or Account, and NAME is the same as the original folder). This creates a symbolic link which is not exactly the same as an alias created within the GUI of OS X. Excellent guide, love the concept and execution.

My primary question and concern when I've considered something like this in the past is - What kind of a performance impact does this have? When I do a 'super-express AH scan' it gets and writes at least a few megs of data in just a few seconds. How does WoW handle that? And conversely. When I mouse-over any item on any toon, it shows me average AH prices based on my scan data - I could imagine there being a noticeable delay if it's pulling this from the Internet every time I mouse-over something. Am I mistaken? It would be different if WoW knew the data was remote and cached it locally, but we're tricking it into believing this is local, so it's going to hit that file directly, every time, for every little thing.

Looking forward to some feedback on that angle! All the files are still stored on each local drive. The DropBox folder or Google Drive folder is an actual folder on each machine that the cloud software automatically keeps in sync with a separate copy in the cloud service and on the other computer. The only delay would be if you keep one of the computers shut down while not using it (like a laptop). You'd need to wait for the cloud service to update the files on that computer after turning it on before launching WoW. I haven't tried this with WoW yet, but I've done it with my Minecraft saves folder for years. Something to note I'm just gonna copy & paste from The Consortium forum posted by user Rassilon: one small bit of advice: DO NOT USE GOOGLE DRIVE for this.

Use any other file syncing service, get in the habit of also using recursive folder checksums for quick data checks when moving between computers (i use Kliu's HashCheck shell extension for this), and also make a 7zip archive snapshot too from time to time. Google Drive has a very nasty habit of appending stuff in parentheses to the file names whenever it feels there's a potential conflict and your freshly saved variables will end up with either '(1)' in parenthesis appended to the file names (other numbers can be in there, if 1 is already taken), or with 'conflict' appended to the file name.

This will lead to massive data loss. While this is perfectly fine for casual documents and preventing accidental document overwrites, the built-in auto-renaming is a total train crash waiting to happen when you use it with TSM because warcraft expects file names to be EXACTLY those it wants and if Drive syncs your file names with (1) or conflict appended to the file name.you'll start swearing A LOT. (speaking from experience here.) If you're monitoring your saved variables LUA files you'll see this behaviour sooner or later. You'll be seeing massive data loss ('forgotten' groups changes, sales not recorded. And so on) and wonder WTF is going on. The answer is simple: Google Drive doesn't always preserve the exact file name. And I can confirm google drive still does this.

The answer is simple: Google Drive doesn't always preserve the exact file name. And I can confirm google drive still does this. As does OneDrive from Microsoft, though it doesn't do (1), it appends the computers name of the conflict. Me, I am going to use my GitLab account to sync my two computers. Requires a bit of manual work, but that gives me more control anyway.

Do Not Necro Six-Year-Old Threads. It doesn't matter if Google brought you here or not. Google isn't subject to the posting guidelines. You are. That said, it's simple enough to sync across different hardware omitting the hardware-specific settings. The trick is going to be not to sync the entire.World of Warcraft/WTF/ folder but to start just below that at the./World of Warcraft/WTF/Account/ folder instead. The graphics settings are stored in the./World of Warcraft/WTF/Config.wtf file.

As long as you don't sync that across both machines, you'll be fine. As to HOW to sync them, my suggestion would be to use cloud-based storage accessible from both machines and either manually destructively copy the./World of Warcraft/WTF/Account/ folder (and all of its contents) with a start-up CMD file script or manually email the folder to yourself at the end of each gaming session so you can (if you've made any changes to it) pull it down and destructively copy it in as needed on the other machine.

I'm certain this is automatable, but I'm not certain as to how to go about it (I can think of different ways to do so, but as I have no need for it, I haven't put much effort into making it happen). There is one other file you won't be taking over with this method, but it's trivial (it's a log of some stuff that doesn't really alter game play).
